Are you experiencing homelessness? One Step Ministry may have a housing program for your family if you are a single parent that works in or your kids attend school in South Orange County or South Los Angeles County (see our service area).

The Host Home program offers emergency housing for 25 days in one room of a Christian's home (two additional 25-day stays may be available.)

'Our House' is a 3-month transitional housing program that offers up to 6 months of housing to single-parent families experiencing homelessness who meet program guidelines.

While living in either a Host Home or transitional housing, the single-parent family works with a parent partner and a financial counselor to help the family become self-sufficient once again. Single-parent families cannot be fleeing abuse, must be capable of working full time, and are screened for drugs.

I Need Housing

Why a transitional house?

  • Many transitional houses are full.
  • Many transitional houses don't house children 12-18 years of age.
  • Other transitional house residents must have a car and a job.

You don't have to have a car or job to be housed in our housing program, but you do have to have a teenager.

Goals

  • Take single parents with teenagers out of motels, cars, and off the streets into stable housing.
  • Provide the tools for single parents to become self-sufficient.
  • Set individualized plans that utilize services that will equip them financially, spiritually, vocationally, and domestically.
  • Partner with local churches, businesses, and private parties to operate and fund this program.

Team

  • Program coordinator: The Director of One Step Ministry oversees the program and coordinates the housing program team.
  • Job training and skills: A recruiter assists residents with resumes and locating jobs. A certified business coach provides mock interviews and career tips.
  • Case Manager: A volunteer meets weekly with residents to identify goals needed to become self sufficient, provide additional resources, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Parent partner: A volunteer meets bi-weekly to help the family identify their needs, then helps create and monitor a plan to meet those needs.
  • Spiritual Counselor: A volunteer meets monthly with each resident to provide spiritual guidance and pray with and for them.
  • Financial counselors: A volunteer with a background in finance or accounting helps each resident establish and maintain a budget.
